Rental / Deposit Scam
Fake listings that take a deposit for a property that is not available.
How it appears in scam messages
A rental scam advertises a property at an attractive price, then asks for a deposit or first month's rent before you can view it — often because the 'landlord' is abroad or the place is 'in high demand'. The listing may be copied from a real one. Once the deposit is sent, the contact disappears.
Example only - do not act on it
Example only: I'm overseas, so send the deposit to hold the flat and I'll courier the keys to you.
Why it matters
Deposits sent before viewing are often lost.
